Did You Know... 50% of the country's prison inmates are not able to read newspaper headlines. 40% of the armed service enlistees were found to read below the 8th grade level. 75% of Adults and 85% of youth have minimal literacy skill.... What does this mean?
In the San Diego Union Tribune, April 12, 1997 a letter to the editor stated the following: - Statistic shows that more then 1/2 CSU freshman were unprepared for college mathematics courses
- 43% were below par in English
- Most colleges or universities admit 40 to 50% of students cannot read, write, or do simple math upon entering college
Did you know.... According to LA Times, Thursday, January 20, 2000LA schools ease plan for stricter pupil promotion:
Unified School District Officially estimated 1/2 of the system's (711,000) students were: - Not at grade level
- Could be forced to repeat
They eased the guideline from C or better because half the students would have had to repeat the same grade level. So instead of C or better to pass only if you get an F in English you will be held back.
